Program Directors Update for 7/5/2008 Run

This week, and this weekend, remember our service men and women - those who are serving here and those who are serving in Iraq and elsewhere.  Fly your flag.  Thank a soldier for serving his country.  And remember at your BBQs, family gatherings and fireworks celebrations, the absolute stunning wonder of our freedom, and that without fear we can meet without fellow runners and friends.  Thank a soldier....

Not every group has checked in as I write this but enough to know that it will be a reduced crowd in beautiful Temple Terrace.  Melinda and Tina's 4:1 group will not be out.  Janet and Charlene's 3:1s won't be out either.  Jeff and Linda will be out representing the 5:1 group and gathering runners at 5:50 a.m.  CHECK WWW.TAMPA262.COM before heading out on Saturday.  If you want to go and run in TT anyway, buddy up with a buddy, and make sure you take beverage and a cell phone.

LIGHTLY LOVED SHOES

If you've got some - Joan would like to have them!  Bring them out next weekend.  Be kind - wash them before passing them along.  They may not be great for your long miles any more but they will bring a smile to someone else's feet.  Just bring them out to the parking lot when you come out next week, and we'll take it from there.

MEN'S SINGLETS

Wooohooo....I asked and I received!  I am so happy to have the opportunity to fulfill requests for XL and larger men's singlets.  I will have them with me next week, and I can't wait to get them to you.  Just ask and you too will receive.....

Charlene, Mary and I did our mid week run in Lakeland this morning.  We ran our first 3 miles around Lake Hollingsworth using run/walk and then decided to do some intervals using the 30 second counting steps/1 minute walk interval.  We established an average number of steps for the first 3 intervals and then determined to add 1 step for every interval after that.  As well, we used the intervals to run up the hill from the lake.  This is not the longest hill or steepest hill in the world - but it will give you pause after a 6 mile run.  We used the intervals up the hill, and accomplished it faster and in better shape than we have in the past several weeks.  When calculating our time and pace for the total 6-1/2 miles, we shaved 20 minutes off our total time!!!  Yeah.  Me too.  I thought that was pretty awesome.  And I had a conference call at 9 a.m. sharp and I was even able to sit up and talk intelligently.  But that may have due to Charlene's blueberry muffins and Ron's coffee.  Hmmm...I'll have to try that again next week!

JULY 12 - that's a date!  We'll be there.  The time will be 5:50 a.m.  You know the place.  Come on out.  Bring a friend.  Bring your slightly used and lightly loved shoes.  And let's get some miles on the road.

Have a great week.  Have a happy holiday.

Iris and Linda
