Program Director’s Update for 8/2/2008
Hello Tampa Gallowayans!!
We will be running the usual route this Saturday in Temple Terrace. Iris
will be out of town, but the running must go on!! We will have long miles
for MCM 15-17 and St. George 17-20. Check with your group leaders to see
who is running early and at what time. If you would like to get in some
extra miles and you are not running these marathons, come on out and give
some support to your running buds. For those of us starting at 6 am, please
go to the 10 mile marker to join the early runners so that they don't have
to stop running and can keep their muscles warm and mobile.
Speaking of St. George; our former Temple Terrace friend, Christi Horstmann
is the program director in Salt Lake City and tells me that she has a few
spots left over for the St. George Marathon in Utah. The marathon
registration is closed, so if you really want to run this marathon on
October 4, let me know today and I will give you Christi's email address so
that she can give you the information. She said that she will give them out
as first come, first serve. The registration is $60 and she has to have the
names into the race directors by Thursday. So sorry this is so late, but I
just received this information. (editor’s note: Lynne Damron and Jeff Odell are both running this marathon. We have an extra hotel room (they are hard to get) so with airfare – Southwest to Las Vegas – you could jump in on this one).
I was reading a book this week about solutions to stress in people's lives.
I guess we have always known that this is true but the book stated that
regular aerobic exercise improves mood. This is true for old and young.
Actually, there are hundreds of things that exercise helps in our lives, but
I have noticed that runners do seem to be in good moods most of the time.
So, if you want to stay happy, come out and run with your friends and bring
more friends with you. The more the merrier and happier!
If you haven't brought any water and electrolyte drinks since April, please
bring them to our hydration team any Saturday. Tina will be putting out the
coolers this weekend.
We are planning to do the magic mile again on August 16. This will give us
the opportunity to see how we have improved since the last time. We are
planning to have a little watermelon party in the Rec Center Parking Lot at
8 am. That will give us time to get in some extra miles after the magic
mile and before the party. Put it on your calendar and remember that we
meet at the Rec Center only when we do the magic mile.
See you all on Saturday at 5:50 am in the parking lot behind the library.
Linda and Iris
