Programs Director’s Update for 8/23/2008

Greetings Tampa Galloway Runners!

Well, I guess we are lucky to have been saved from the winds and rain of Tropical Storm Fay, so far.  It looks like the system is currently stalled right off the east coast and could be heading back toward the west.  Hopefully, the worst effect for us will be some rain.  Please keep in mind that if we have thunder storms (with thunder and lightening) we do not run in those conditions.  If that happens before the run, please stay in your car until the storms pass.  If it happens while you are running, please find shelter (not a tree) somewhere along the route.  The golf shelters along the way are an option as well as gas stations and the bathroom at the college.  Remember to have one member of each group carry a cell phone in case of an emergency.  We always want to practice safe running.

If you are running the Marine Corps Marathon, San Antonio and St. George marathons, you will be running long this Saturday.  Please communicate with your group leaders if you need someone to run with because we never run alone!  Jeff, Roxanne, Marie and Naty are planning to come out early.

Tina will bring the hydration coolers this weekend.  We are still in need of a fourth hydration member.  Please let us know if you are interested or know someone who might be interested.

Iris will be on vacation again this weekend and I have been advised not to run for 2-3 weeks due to a knee ligament problem.  Janet will be gathering the groups together at 5:50 AM behind the library.  Thank you so much Janet.

The magic mile was a success last weekend.  We had 13 people participate and the results are attached if you are interested.  I have also attached two pace charts.  The first one has the projected time using your projected pace from the magic mile for 5-9 min. mile pace.  The second one has your projected time for 9-14 magic-mile pace.  Most of us will be using the second pace chart!!  Thank you for helping out to Janet and Naty.  We probably will not be doing the magic mile again until October when it is a little cooler.  It is fun and rewarding to see how you have improved or if you need to work a little harder.

Enjoy the last week of the Olympics.  I think the games are encouraging many to exercise more and become more active.

I will hope my knee improves and will be out running again in two weeks.

We hope you all have a great Saturday run.

Linda and Iris
