5:1 Group Leader Update for 1/10/2009

Hello!
After  arriving back home from Houston at midnight on Friday night, only 1 hour sleep, got up at 2:00 AM for a 3:00 AM start to run 24 miles on Saturday, I was finally able to get to the 50 naps I had planned throughout the weekend and which were my motivation to get through the long run we did this past Saturday...and yes you heard right! 50 naps! (or close enough) it was pretty much nap, get up for a bit, walk around, eat something and then nap, get up ..... so on and so on.

Amazingly even though I was so tired I felt good, my legs feel great, but I definitely do not recommend to anyone to run so long after so little sleep or to run while sleeping which is what I must have been doing.

This just puts into perspective the different motivators we have to get us through the long runs, to me this time all I kept thinking about were my naps, sometimes it's a nice steak I like to eat for lunch after a long run, sometimes it's the music on my Ipod that gets me through and believe it or not, sometimes I crave the ice bath I take at the end of my long runs. So folks, whatever it takes to do it, just remember that on top of all the weird motivators you may have going on in your mind, you can always count with the great company of your running buddies, they'll be there for sure to support you and perhaps without knowing your company may be the reason they get through their long runs (for sure this is one of my motivators too).

By the way, there's proof!!! I just got this month's Runner's World and there's an article that must have been written with me in mind, it's called "25 Foods Every Runner Should Eat (And Proof You Need More Chocolate)"..... so, guess which was my favorite part of the article?

Big cheers for Brunnie and Jill who are headed to the Disney Marathon this weekend, Elizabeth is also headed to Orlando to run the half marathon with Beth, so big cheers for them too (these are not second hand cheers Elizabeth).

For the rest, sleep in and come out at 5:50 AM for a 10 mile stroll around TT.

See you there.

Saludos! Naty
